Did you know?

Colds are usually milder than the flu, but both can cause fatigue, congestion, and body aches that disrupt daily life.

Understanding Cold & Flu Symptoms

Imagine waking up with a sore throat, runny nose, and tiredness—these are common signs of cold or flu. Both conditions are caused by viruses that affect the respiratory system, but the flu often comes on suddenly and feels more severe. The body’s immune response creates inflammation and mucus to fight off infection, leading to symptoms like congestion and aches. While most people recover at home, some may experience lingering effects or complications.

Triggers for cold and flu include close contact with infected individuals, touching contaminated surfaces, or seasonal changes that weaken immune defenses. Managing these illnesses involves rest, hydration, and symptom relief, with some choosing additional supportive therapies. High-risk groups, such as young children and older adults, may need extra care. Preventive steps and early intervention can help reduce the impact of these common viral infections.

Common Symptoms of Cold & Flu

The common cold often starts with a gradual onset of symptoms like a runny nose, mild sore throat, and sneezing. Fatigue and mild headaches may follow, making daily activities more challenging. Some people also notice a mild cough or slight body aches as the illness progresses. Symptoms usually remain mild and resolve within a week.

Influenza, or the flu, tends to appear suddenly with more intense symptoms such as high fever, chills, and pronounced body aches. Headaches, severe fatigue, and a persistent cough are also common. Many people experience significant weakness and may need to rest for several days. The flu can sometimes lead to complications, especially in vulnerable groups.

Both cold and flu can cause congestion, sinus pressure, and general discomfort. Some individuals develop lingering symptoms like brain fog or a lingering cough even after the main illness subsides. Monitoring for worsening symptoms is important, especially for those with underlying health conditions. Supportive care can help manage these symptoms and promote recovery.

Traditional Treatments

Standard treatment for cold and flu focuses on rest, hydration, and over-the-counter medications to relieve symptoms. Antiviral drugs may be prescribed for certain flu cases, especially if started early in the illness. Supportive care, such as using humidifiers or saline sprays, can help ease congestion and throat discomfort. Most people recover at home without complications.

For those with persistent or severe symptoms, medical evaluation is recommended to rule out complications like pneumonia. High-risk individuals, including young children, older adults, and those with chronic illnesses, may require closer monitoring. Integrative therapies, such as IV nutrient infusions, are sometimes used to support recovery but should complement—not replace—conventional care. Always consult a healthcare provider for guidance tailored to your situation.

Wow, what a top-notch experience. From the moment I walked in the door to getting my IV, slipping into the compression leggings, and topping it off with a red-light session—everything was seamless. The space is bright, clean, and professional, yet still incredibly relaxing with a spa-like feel. Dana, the nurse, was fantastic and made the whole experience so pleasant. Many thanks, Drip Bar!

I went to the DRIPBaR when I was on day four of having the Flu and they were all hands on deck to get me feeling better! Everyone was beyond friendly and so happy to help. The facility is incredibly clean and tidy and they have a large variety of offerings including red light therapy. I felt better almost immediately and even better the following day. Prices may seem high but when you’re super sick and don’t have time to be, it’s worth it IMO.
